Elena Petelos

Elena is a public health specialist with a background in medicine, molecular biology, molecular oncology and evidence-based medicine. She re-trained mid-career, focusing on health economics and policy, and becoming a Senior Fellow in Public Health at the University of Crete and a Fellow in Governance and Policy Analysis at the United Nations University - Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology.

She is currently a Lecturer in Evidence-Based Medicine and Evidence-Informed Policy at the University of Crete (UoC), with teaching and research focus on Shared Decision Making. She has been a member of the core team of the UoC in multiple EU co-financed research and capacity-building projects (OTC-SOCIOMED, TRANSFORM-EU, QUALICOPC, EUR-HUMAN, ORAMMA) with a strong focus on needs assessment and participatory research. Prior to fully transitioning to academia she held various positions in Clinical R&D in the medtech and pharma industries, focusing on evidentiary requirements for regulatory submissions, as well as on trial reporting, transparency and disclosure.

Elena is a member of the Advisory Board of the European Forum for Primary Care (EFPC), and member of the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Network Pool of Experts of the European Commission, representing EFPC. She also serves as a member the European Medicines Agency EFPC Working Group. She is a member of the Governing Board of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) and a Member of the Steering Group for HTA of EUPHA. She is the Co-Chair in the Regulatory Interaction and Conditional Coverage SIG of HTAi, as well as a member of the Scientific Development & Capacity Building Committee (SDCB) of HTAi. In her capacity as a member of the Steering Group of the European Health Information Initiative (EHII) of the World Health Organization (WHO), she is the elected Chair of the Subgroup of EU, OECD, WHO - EHII on Mapping indicators across the European region and the Vice-Chair of the Sub-group on Evidence-Informed Policy.
